our story

We took over Cooke’s Florist on October 1st, 2012. My husband, Adam, and I live near the flower shop, it’s almost in our backyard and thus the new name was born. We will keep the same tradition and quality the Cooke’s and those after them always upheld.

Born and raised in Clinton Ontario, I went to Algonquin College for Floral Design graduating in 2003. I had worked in shops in the local area before moving to Toronto in 2006. In Toronto I worked and then ran an event decor company called Just Design. It was a high end event decor company servicing events such as weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, and corporate events. I enjoyed that for 5 years and once I met my husband decided it was time to move back to Huron County. Adam himself is Paramedic in the county, a volunteer firefighter, and a Councillor in Central Huron, and although very supportive only pretends he knows flowers.

Fresh flowers are what I know best! The greenhouse is one area that we are and always will be learning about. We will continue the Cooke's tradition of annuals, bedding plants, and vegetables but will hopefully branch out to perennials and different plants as we go.

I am one who enjoys a country, unique, primitive feel and this will be reflected throughout the shop. One person’s junk is another’s treasure and we like to take other’s “junk” and turn it into something you would put into your home.

As our business grows so does our family. Since starting our venture we have welcomed a daughter Beaux and now a son Oakland. We thank all of our customers for their patience and support as we find the balance between business and family. This is an exciting adventure for us and I invite you to be part of it. Watch The Backyard Flower Shop and our family grow and blossom!
