The Backyard Flower Shop, formerly Cooke's Florist, is a full service flower shop with greenhouses, home decor and gifts. Fresh flowers is what we do best! We cater to every day occasions, funerals and weddings. Our line of giftware and home decor reflects my own passion for antiques, country and primitive looks with some one of a kind pieces.

Our Story

Tricia Renner Robinson and Adam Robinson – owners

We  took over Cooke’s Florist October 1st, 2012. After 85 years it was time to change the name! Cooke’s haven’t owned the business for almost 10 years, so I felt it was time. My husband, Adam, and I live near the flower shop, almost in our backyard and thus the new name was born.  We will keep the same tradition and quality the Cooke’s and those after them always withheld.

Born and raised in Clinton Ontario, I went to Algonquin College for Floral Design graduating in 2003. I had worked in shops in the local area before moving to Toronto in 2006. In Toronto I worked and then ran an event decor company called Just Design. It was a high end event decor company servicing events such as weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, and corporate events. I enjoyed that for 5 years and once I met my husband decided it was time to move back to Huron County. Adam himself is Paramedic in the county and although very supportive only pretends he knows anything about flowers.

From the day we looked at what would be our new home Adam said we needed to buy Cooke’s. The day the neighbour came to tell us the ladies were ready to sell we were eager to jump aboard.

Fresh flowers are what I know best!  The greenhouse is one area that I am learning about. We will learn as we go with an array of spring bedding plants, hanging baskets and vegetables. We will continue the Cooke's tradition of annuals but will hopefully branch out to perennials and different plants as we go.

I am one who enjoys a country, unique, primitive feel and this will be reflected throughout the shop.  One person’s junk is another’s treasure and we like to take other’s “junk” and turn it into something you would put into your home.

This is a new and exciting adventure for us and I invite you to be part of it. Watch The Backyard Flower Shop grow and blossom!
